Here are some things I know for sure. We live busy lives with work and family and friends. We have two dogs, one a 15 year old rescue and the other a 5 year old Golden Retriever. My day begins just after 4 in the morning and goes pretty much full tilt until my head hits the pillow around 9:30 pm.
I know all this, I know our evenings are often spoken for and our weekends are filled with commitments. And yet, we have added to our family this week with a 9 week old puppy joining our busy home.
We’ve asked ourselves more than a few times why we were doing this and, I confess, I was absolutely the instigator. Here we are taking a tiny puppy out in the middle of the night, living with baby gates all over and carpet cleaner ever at the ready.
When we talked about this, both before and since, I’ve had only one overarching feeling. I’ve felt, and I’ve said, that we have enough love to go around. And what that means to me is recognizing how blessed we are in our lives and our relationship, that extending that circle of love to another was natural and easy and right.
In a broader sense, it seems to me that it’s an attitude that we ought to apply in so many situations in our lives, both personally and professionally. I am not saying that we have to “love everyone” but I am saying that, if we show caring to others, it not only sweetens their life but enhances ours as well. We all have “enough to go around” but we often forget it, take it for granted, push towards an outcome. Sharing a little warmth and a little humanity, coming from a place of love, is a way to both express and fill our full hearts.
